A brief introduction.
My name is Nicolas Douglas.
I've found that my passion is producing.
From music to metalworking, and from carpentry to calligraphy.
I love putting time and energy into a project and sharing the results.
I've been camping, cycling, skateboarding, surfing, swimming, and turning a wrench since I was 10 years old. I was always more keen on taking toys apart and re-purposing them to suit my imaginative needs, rather than play with them as provided.
Throughout my years, I've expanded my knowledge through the educational realms and by studying technical aspects of machinery and systems, but I still have a fascination with natural design. I find it interesting when nature finds a way to succeed, against all odds. The complex designs inherent in the natural world are beautiful, effective, and sometimes overtly simple.
I've felt let down by poorly designed products before, and believe that just a little insight can go a long way in the design stage of a product.
I've also witnessed effective products work tremendously well, as a direct consequence of a well thought out design.
I'm confident in what I do know, and sometimes, I don't know all the answers. I often find that I'm capable of success outside of my comfort zone, and that adaptation can be a useful tool to produce solutions, rather than roadblocks.
Currently, I'm in the Austin Texas area.
I work as a manufacturing engineer with a great group of people at a company called Flame Tech. We make awesome welding and cutting apparatus!
I'm interested in helping to create effective, first class products that cultivate an appreciation for quality, fit, finish, durability and sustainability.
Thank you for reading, and be sure to contact me with any inquiries.
